About DTU Orbit
- the DTU research database
What is DTU Orbit
DTU Orbit is DTU’s research database or “institutional repository”.
DTU Orbit provides you with an overview of DTU’s publication output. Everyone, even people without affiliation with DTU, can use DTU Orbit's search interface.
Visit DTU Orbit
All DTU employees have an DTU Orbit profile and from here you can upload publications, add projects, activities, curricula vitae, export your publication list etc. The employees' DTU Orbit profile is linked from their profile on DTU.dk.
Since 2012, DTU Orbit has been based on Pure a CRIS (Current Research Information) provided by Elsevier.
What does DTU Orbit contain
DTU Orbit contains DTU publications from 1996 onwards. In addition, the repository includes publications from the former Risø National Laboratory (from 1958 onwards), the former IHK (from 1971 onwards), DTU Environment (from 1966 onwards) and publications by DTU Aqua, DTU Food, DTU Vet and DTU Space from 2007 onwards. In addition to publications, Publications that are not affiliated to DTU are not added to DTU Orbit.
In addition to publications, DTU Orbit also contains projects and activities that DTU researchers are (or have been) involved in.
Who updates DTU Orbit
DTU Library handles the management and system upkeep of DTU Orbit – including adding publications to the repository. Data related to PhD projects are harvested into DTU Orbit via the PhD Office and DTU researchers themselves handle the registration of all additional content types i.e. projects, activities, prizes, press/media content, curricula vitae etc.
Add projects and activities
DTU Library locates and adds most of DTU’s research publications. The publications we are unable to find (typically conference papers, abstracts, posters, books, book chapters and reports), the researchers must send to DTU Orbit themselves. It is the responsibility of the individual DTU researcher that his/her DTU publication list is correct and up-to-date.

DTU's organizational structure in DTU Orbit
It is important that the departmental organizational structure is described and updated in DTU Orbit and that researchers are linked to the organizational units they belong to. Each time a department makes changes to their organization, they must inform DTU Library via email at orbit@dtu.dk. Data on researchers' institutional affiliation is updated via DTUBasen.

What is DTU Orbit used for
DTU Orbit is used for internal statistics and evaluations such as the UMV-statistics and also makes DTU’s research visible to the outside world. As a main rule, the DTU Orbit metadata are displayed publicly on the portal. The metadata are collected from various local services at DTU (for local use at DTU.dk), from national services (for various national services, metrics, analyses and indicators), and from international organisations.
