Publication statistics
Research Output Statistics
DTU Library offers a tool for monitoring the number of publications in DTU Orbit. The tool is called Research Output Statistics (abbr. ROS) and is available in DTU Findit:
- Log in to DTU Findit
- Select "Statistics" in the drop-down menu below your name (top right hand corner)
ROS shows the number of DTU publications on the level of departments, centers and sections.
To see the figures for a specific department or section, select the drop-down menu for “Technical University of Denmark”. You can search for a department or section in the search field, or you can unfold the organization structure, using the arrows to the left of the department name.
In addition, you can see open access figures and you can compare the current publication figures with those from the previous year. Tick the relevant boxes for these figures to be displayed.
The ROS figures are generated once every two weeks. If you want to keep track of your department’s or section’s publications, please contact DTU Library at orbit@dtu.dk. We can set up reports of the publications that have been added e.g. over the last month.

Strategic Plan
The publication figures from ROS are included in the university’s strategic framework and form part of the Strategic Plan (formerly known as the UMV statistics).

Every year, the DTU Orbit figures in ROS are submitted to the SP form in DTU’s Annual Management Cycle (the AMC System).
The figures that are submitted can be seen in ROS under the UMV tab.
The figures are based on the submission year, not the publication year (the two years may differ, see below)
The categories in ROS match those of Strategic Plan:
- Scientific, peer-rev. articles in WoS journals
- Scientific, peer-rev. articles in other journals
- Scientific, peer-rev. contrib. to conferences
- Dr Theses
- PhD Theses (only up until 2020)
- Other publications from DTU Orbit
For a publication to be included in the statistics, the following criteria must be met:
- The article must have been published*
- The publication must include at least one DTU affilation
- The article must have been added to DTU Orbit no later than the end of the year following its publication.
*publications with the status of “submitted” or “accepted in press” will not be included until they have been formally published with volume, issue number, page numbers etc.
Deadline
There is a deadline for uploading publications to DTU Orbit. The deadline is in December every year – the specific date will be sent to all departments (typically the head of the department and the local member of DTU Biblioteksforum).
Publications that have been added on time, will be submitted by DTU Library to Strategic Plan in January the following year.
Publications received after the deadline will be submitted to the Strategic Plan for the following year. A maximum of one year between publication year and submission year is allowed. Thus, publications added two or more years after they have been published will not be included in the statistics.
It is the responsibility of the researchers themselves to monitor their publication lists in DTU Orbit and send in any missing publications (including conference contributions).
Departmental evaluations
The ROS statistics are not used for the departmental evaluations. These are based on the Research Analytics Platform.
