We review the basic principles of literature searching to provide students with a solid foundation for academic information retrieval. We present a range of search techniques, from quick searches to advanced searches using Boolean operators, illustrated through searching and navigation in DTU Findit.

DTU Library provides access to a wide range of databases, both interdisciplinary and subject-specific. When relevant, we can take a deeper look at selected databases and explore their specific features.

Here, we use generative AI as a supplement to traditional databases. Students are introduced to using these tools to identify alternative search terms, generate short summaries of articles, and apply simple visual tools to search results.

Through source-critical methods, students gain concrete techniques and routines for assessing quality, credibility, and relevance.

To help keep track of references, we offer an introduction to Mendeley. Students can build their own library, which is used to insert correct citations and generate reference lists. We demonstrate how to integrate Mendeley directly with Word and Overleaf.

Students are introduced to the most important rules and practices for using text, images, code, data, and AI, helping them avoid copyright infringement in projects and assignments. The focus is on copyright, but the session may also address other laws and regulations relevant to a specific course.
