Reference management

- reference management, reference tools, and responsible documentation of sources in academic work

Effective reference management is essential for conducting transparent, credible, and reproducible research.

DTU Library offers training that helps PhD students and supervisors manage, organize, and document research literature throughout the research and publication process.

Participants will learn how to:

  • organise references, PDFs, and research materials efficiently
  • use reference management tools such as Mendeley Institutional Edition
  • insert citations and bibliographies in MS Word
  • collaborate on shared reference libraries within research groups
  • apply appropriate reference styles for theses, articles, and journals
  • avoid plagiarism and ensure responsible research practice
  • document and acknowledge the use of generative AI in research and writing

The training is suitable for PhD courses, research groups, and supervisor workshops. Sessions can be tailored to publication workflows, thesis writing, collaborative research projects, or responsible AI use in academic work, too.

The learning goals are to support transparent and responsible scholarship by helping researchers manage sources effectively, give proper credit to others' work, and maintain high standards of academic integrity.
