Copyright and IP

- rules and practices within copyright when preparing, conducting, and reporting their research

Navigating the dos and don’ts of copyright is an essential part of any research, and copyright is more important than ever for most projects.

Old laws applied to new technologies, especially generative AI, can feel complicated. Issues such as transfer of rights when publishing, licensing, ownership of data, predatory journals, using other people’s texts and images er still important knowledge. And creating output using generative AI as well as training your own chatbots, demands a certain level of knowledge about copyright.

We will tailor the session to focus on some or any of these issues. The main focus is copyright, but the session may also address other laws and regulations relevant to a specific project.

The purpose of the session is to establish a foundation of copyright literacy for researchers at DTU.

After the session, participants should be able to:

  • explain the basis rights granted by copyright
  • differentiate between economic rights and ideal/moral rights
  • choose the best license for research output
  • identify relevant exceptions in the law
  • understand the rules of using generative AI in research.
