Data management plans

A data management plan (DMP) is a tool to help organize how you handle your research data across the project life cycle. It outlines how data will be collected, organized, documented, stored, shared, and published.

According to DTU's Research Data Management Policy, it is expected that a data management plan is developed for all research projects at DTU.

The data management plan is a tool to identify and account for technical, ethical, and legal aspects of data management, as well as to consider workflows, practices, and create an overview of your data management activities. It serves as your strategy for what should happen with your data. When describing the life cycle of your data, you ensure that both you yourself and others can find and understand your data.

A DMP is a dynamic document; revised continuously as the research project evolves.

DTU has developed a DTU specific template in DeiC DMP, that includes guidelines for writing a data management plan.

Check if your department have its own DMP template at your internal sites.

Please note that some funding agencies provide their own templates, such as Horizon Europe and ERC. These are available in DeiC DMP.

Important: Choose 'Danmarks Tekniske Universitet/ Technical University of Denmark' from the drop down menu, when you log on to DeiC DMP the first time.

You can use the DeiC DMP service to develop data management plans. DeiC DMP includes templates that guide you in the process.

You can contact DTU Library for further guidance on data management plans. Contact us at datamanagement@dtu.dk

The tool is available to all employees at Danish research institutions and their collaborators.
