SCOAP3 – Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics
- free Open Access publishing in journals concerning high-energy physics
SCOAP3 are converting key journals regarding the field of high-energy physics to Open Access without any expense for authors who are collaborating with the leading publishing house. The outcome will result in that articles will be Open Access (CC-BY) and that copyright remains with the author.
There is no cap (limit) on the number of Open Access articles that can be published in the journals which are covered by agreement.
As corresponding author, it is vital that when submit your research article that you notify that the article will be published as Open Access under the Danish agreement.
When submitting your research article, it is important that you choose DTU as your affiliated institution and that you use your corresponding DTU-mail address, so that you can publish under the agreement.
- Use your DTU e-mail as the corresponding author
- State DTU as your institutional affiliation (Technical University of Denmark)
- Select Open Access to publish your article without a publication fee
- Choose a Creative Commons license
If it is possible to choose between different CC-licenses, then you are encouraged to select a CC BY 4.0 license which is the least restrictive license in the CC-portfolio.
The SCOAP3 program includes journals that are published with different publishers which all concern high-energy physics. Therefore, the submission process is unchanged, regarding the individuals journal´s “Author guidelines”. Authors do not have to pay a fee to publish in a SCOAP3 journal. It is recommended that you as an author include your ORCID in the submission process since it assists SCOAP3 partners in finding and supporting your publications.

SCOAP3-programme
Denmark has participated in the SCOAP program since January 2014. The SCOAP3 model is based on redirecting funds, that are currently being applied to pay for subscriptions to one of the journals participating in SCOAP3 and instead utilizing the funds for the purposes of supporting the alteration towards Open Access as well as to fund Article Processing Charges (APC) in existing Open Access journals.
SCOAP3 finances Open Access publishing of journals that concern high-energy physics in the supporting publishing houses via two methods that will determine which articles are insured.
Some articles are included
In the journals listed below, it is only articles that concern high-energy physics which are covered by SCOAP3. Additional articles (in these journals) are published either with restricted access or must be made accessible through other sources:
- Acta Physica Polonica B (APPB) [Jagiellonian University, Krakow]
- Advances in High Energy Physics (AHEP) [Hindawi]
- Chinese Physics C (CPC) [Institute of Physics Publishing]
- Physical Review C (PRC) [Institute of Physics Publishing]
- Physical Review D (PRD) [Institute of Physics Publishing]
- Physical Review Letters (PRL) [American Physical Society]
- Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics (PTEP) [Oxford University Press]
All articles are included
In the following journals SCOAP3 grants full funding of all articles (i.e. the entire journal):
- The European Physical Journal C (EPJC) [Springer-Nature]
- The Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP ) [Springer-Nature]
- Nuclear Physics B (NPB) [Elsevier]
- Physics Letters B (PLB) [Elsevier]
