Text and data mining (TDM)

The use of article texts for TDM for scientific purposes

DTU researchers, in connection with DTU research projects, can use full-text articles for text and data mining (TDM) according to DTU Library’s agreements with the respective publishers and, in some cases, through Open Access publishing (Golden) and based on the Copyright Act (Section 11c).

Conditions

The use of publishers’ texts (data) is subject to certain requirements:

  • Notify the publisher
This can be done by using the DTU Library Word template, where all fields need to be completed, and sending it by emails to the publisher with a copy (cc) to DTU Library at elibrary@dtu.dk.
Template for letter to the publisher (Word)

  • Documentation
The use and application of data must be documented.

  • Data must be secured
To carry out TDM lawfully, the retrieved data must be stored with an appropriate level of security. This means that copies must be stored on DTU equipment or in DTU systems and protected by adequate access control.

  • Scientific use only
The retrieved data may only be stored and used for the purpose of scientific research.

  • Data must be deleted
Data may only be stored for as long as necessary for text and data mining, and must be deleted when the research project is completed.
