If you add the DOI from a publication registered in DTU Orbit to your data set in DTU Data, a metadata record of the data set is created in DTU Orbit for the content types data set and software. Thus, your data entry from DTU Data will be linked to the publication in DTU Orbit. Note that the dataset itself is not uploaded to DTU Orbit; it is the metadata, including a link to the data set's location, which is uploaded.
This linking through DOI also ensures that the data set will be displayed on your DTU Orbit profile, with a link to the dataset in DTU Data.
Linking is a great opportunity to increase the visibility of your underlying research data - as part of the openness.
You can also register metadata for data sets in DTU Orbit yourself, according to our guide on DTU Inside. This allows you to add data sets from other repositories such as Zenodo.
Supporting Open Science
When you link research data with the related publication, the transparency and credibility of the results increase. If the data set is open, others can easily verify the data underlying the research and assess reproducibility. Others can also use the data for new analyses. This supports openness, Open Science, which in some cases is required by funders and journals
