References

An important academic discipline is preparing correct references in your academic work. Today, references are often not just scientific articles and books.

References are also made to patents, data or data sets, software, websites, instruments - and AI-generated text and images etc. Here you can find help for handling the different types of sources.

DTU does not have a preferred method
There are several different approaches to writing citations. The scientific journals all have their own formats, which the author follows in his or hers manuscript.

Examples
We present here two different examples of reference methods with a focus on the many different types of sources:

  • APA 7th
    - the reference list is sorted alphabetically by first author's last name.

  • IEEE
    - the reference list is numerical. The sources are numbered according to when they appear in the text.
