Open Data is increasingly demanded by funders, decision-makers and the data-driven sciences. Data from the public sector, including research data, must be openly available. There is already several examples of Danish municipalities and regions (https://www.opendata.dk/), sectors (https://www.energidataservice.dk/) and museums (https://open.smk.dk/) making their data accessible. DTU offers DTU Data - https://data.dtu.dk - as repository for research data.
"Open Data are online, free of cost, accessible data that can be used, reused and distributed provided that the data source is attributed."

The purpose is to
- create transparency in public administration
- secure a high degree of utilisation of data that is already collected
- support research and innovation
- reuse data in new contexts.
It is necessary to prepare and present specific metadata in order to make data accessible. Metadata is data about data and necessary for the user to find data, and for understanding the origin and content of data, as well as the use rights.
