We explore the basics of Open Access at DTU and address the major types of Open Access: green, golden and hybrid. We’ll talk about pre-prints and post-prints and provide an overview of DTU Library’s Open Access services and resources.

Once again, DTU Library will be celebrating the international Open Access Week in week 43.

Throughout the week, the library in Lyngby will be “dressed up” in orange – the official Open Access color. A number of informative posters will be on display in the library to tell more about Open Access publishing.

Both DTU Findit and DTU Data will be "dressed up” in orange too.

Open Access

Open Access is about giving free access to online literature without subscriptions or other restrictions. It is important to point out that Open Access does not compromise your scientific integrity – your research will still be peer-reviewed.

You publish Open Access by depositing the accepted, peer-reviewed version of your article (post-print/accepted manuscript) in a repository e.g. DTU Orit or in an Open Access journal.

Open Access publishing is often a funder requirement. This can present challenges in relation to publishers' restrictions. An issue we will address in this week's news from DTU Library.

The concept of Open Access is also used in connection with research data. In recent years, DTU Library has launched a platform for the storage of research data from DTU, DTU Data. This week's news from DTU Library will also shed light on what lies in the concept of Open Access in relation to research data.

Open Access is not only relevant when you want to publish your research. Open Access is also important when you search for scientific publications and data. Open Access means wider access to - and better utilization of – research, as it is freely available regardless of subscriptions and licenses.

DTU departments and the Danish National Strategy

DTU endorses the Danish National Open Access Strategy and during the Open Access Week, DTU Library will send out updated Open Access figures to all DTU departments, encouraging them to work towards meeting the official goals. The National Strategy states that by 2025, all Danish peer-reviewed scientific articles must be available Open Access; 100 %
