DTU Civil Engineering, Section for Building Energy invites applications for a full-time position as Assistant Professor within the field of Integrated Energy Solutions for Buildings and Communities.

The Section for Building Energy is focused on research, development and testing in all energy related aspects for new and existing buildings in both large scale and building scale. We perform studies on the building envelope, building services and energy systems to develop the scientific foundation for sustainable buildings with a high quality indoor environment and low energy demand.

The assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position.

Research will be performed in the field Integrated Energy Solutions for Buildings and Communities. The field includes utilization of smart technologies for monitoring and automation to improve building and energy system operation. The field includes modelling and system simulation of buildings as part of communities to optimize the energy system in the individual buildings and the energy system on a local scale.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will be engaged in teaching and research activities in the field Integrated Energy Solutions for Buildings and Communities. Candidates are expected to develop strong collaborative, innovative and multi-disciplinary research activities, while they should contribute to strengthen and develop teaching in the field. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to engage in fundraising and active participation in externally funded projects.

Teaching activities includes both bachelor and master level courses and student project supervision. Teaching activities can be expected on both DTU Lyngby campus and DTU Ballerup campus.

Administrative duties include academic assessment work at all levels and project management.

It is expected that the candidate contributes to a significant collaboration across DTU and with international partners. Relevant sections within the department are Section for Building Design and Section for Indoor Environment and Building Physics. At DTU relevant collaboration partners include Department of Management Engineering, Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Department of Energy Conversion and Storage, and DTU Electrical Engineering.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

  • You have experience with modelling of energy performance of buildings in connection with the energy system on a local/community scale
  • You have experience with smart metering and monitoring of energy performance
  • You have experience with energy planning and energy policies especially Denmark and EU.
  • You have experience with research projects with many participants across disciplines
  • You have experience with small non-grid connected energy systems e.g. in the arctic
  • You are driven by exploring boundaries
  • You enjoy working with complex topics
  • You thrive on collaboration and teamwork

Consideration will also be given to:

  • the ability to teach BSc students in Danish. Thus, excellent oral and written communication skills in Danish are required. For international candidates, DTU offers Danish language courses for the purpose of being able to teach in Danish within the first 2-3 years.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

An assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
