The Department of Management Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the area of Business Analytics and Operations Research.

The position will be part of the division of Management Science at DTU’s Management Engineering Department. The division of Management Science (MS) is the largest MS division in Denmark. It is recognised internationally as one of the leading MS divisions in Scandinavia and includes Operations Research (OR), Implementation and Performance Management (IPM), and Operations Management (OM). The OR group, in which the position is available, focuses on OR approaches and covers all phases of the OR cycle: From problem analysis over model building to the development of new solutions methods and interpretation of the results. Typical application areas in OR at DTU are maritime, health care, public transport, manpower planning, transportation planning, and energy.

Responsibilities and tasks
With this position, we want to strengthen our teaching and research within Business Analytics as part of the OR domain. The position is part of DTUs initiatives within the Business Analytics and data science area and is strategic for the development of the Strategic Analysis and Systems design BSc program at DTU. Research within health care and/or production is an advantage.

The candidate is expected to be able to work with important areas of Business Analytics as it connects to OR and the classical areas of linear and integer programming and mathematical optimization.

The successful candidate should conduct research within OR at an international level and will also develop and pursue the dissemination of research results achieved in international peer-reviewed high quality journals within OR and at leading conferences. The candidate should conduct both theoretical as well as practice-oriented and applied research. In addition, the department emphasises engagement with the industry.

Especially previous experience with decision trees, multiple criteria decision analysis (e.g. AHP and Electre), descriptive analytics and time series forecasting in a teaching or research context is an advantage. The candidate is expected to be able to participate in the full breath of the course portfolio of the OR group and must be able to develop teaching materials at all levels.

Finally, the candidate should actively participate in attracting and co-supervising BSc and MSc students and contribute to the development of the course curriculum within Business Analytics and OR in general. The MSc and PhD studies at DTU are taught in English, whereas the BSc and BEng studies are taught in Danish. Also, much sector related work will be in Danish, so the candidate is expected to master Danish within a reasonable time after being appointed.

The candidate is expected to participate in the development of research proposals. We expect applicants to be able to articulate the appropriateness of their research approach for the question at hand.

The new Assistant Professor is expected to cooperate with colleagues across the department and across the university with other departments. Special interest is here to bridge the gap and promote collaboration with relevant research groups such as Implementation and Performance Management (IPM) and Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) at the department.
